The clothing industry is a "big polluter".

An ordinary garment turns from raw material.

Fabric

From clothing production to logistics, from use to eventual abandonment, they emit carbon dioxide.

Many raw materials such as cotton and ramie are widely used in the planting stage, such as pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides, which pollute the environment. When raw materials are stored, preservatives, fungicides and moth proofing agents such as pentachlorophenol are used. In the process of weaving, oxidants, accelerator and detergent are used. In dyeing and printing, azo dyes intermediates, formaldehyde and halide carriers and heavy metals are also used.

How to reduce

Clothing industry

Redress, a charitable organization in Hongkong, proposes that we should make rational use of fabric waste.

The "Yi cool regeneration Fashion Festival" shows the works of the top six players on the scene. The materials used are all recycled fabric waste. These young designers not only enhance their strength through this competition, but also skillfully use the design skills to reduce the waste of fabric, and also design the time.

Clothes & Accessories

Finally, young designer Lin Chunju became a prize winner.

"Clothing manufacturing, with an average of 10% to 20% of the textiles being wasted.

In this competition, we have proposed several schemes to reduce the waste of textiles. For example, we can reduce waste from the design process first, and secondly, we should make full use of the raw materials effectively.

We are actively educating a new generation of designers to establish the right concept.

Redress chief executive officer Christina Dean said.
