"Proportion" And "Balance" In Fashion Design

Balance means equal interest and weight on both sides of the equilibrium center. It is an important part of the principle of clothing beauty and plays a decisive role in the effect of clothing design. A set of visually balanced clothing can give people a beautiful enjoyment. Conversely, if the balance can not be balanced, it will make the wearer and the viewer feel psychological discomfort.

What we call equilibrium is not exactly the same on both sides. It also has two situations.

Symmetrical balance:

Also known as axial symmetry, the two sides of the shaft, fabric, process structure, color and other elements of clothing are identical. Symmetrical balance design is more stable and suitable for women's rich classical style design.

Asymmetrical balance:

It is a more complicated design form. The elements on the sides of the shaft, fabric, process, structure and color are not the same. They can be an element or more than two elements.

In order to balance the elements on the axis visually, it is necessary to adjust the area, direction and number of the design elements.

From the perspective of human visual characteristics, we should pay attention to the following two aspects in studying the balance of clothing design.

If the human eye looks from one side to the other, the attraction on both sides is equal. Attention will swing back and forth like a pendulum, and finally stop at one point between the poles. If the equilibrium center has objects, it can stop the eyes satisfactorily and create a pleasant and calm moment in the mind of the viewer.

Clothing styles, whether tight or loose, need some details to meet the visual needs of the eyes. The details of clothing mainly refer to technology, decoration, clothing structure, etc. The details of the same style are quite different. Pay attention to color or material balance analysis of visual equilibrium relationship, two concepts must be clear: measure and component. Their overall effects affect the visual balance of the design. The measure is to distinguish the size of pure form and the quantity of color and quality. Assuming that both sides of the garment are homogenous and homomorphic, their metric relationship is balanced, and once the quality and color of some of them are changed, they lose their sense of balance in vision. For example, one garment is blue on both sides, but the other is light cotton yarn, while the other side is thick cotton cloth.

Or the same material, one side of the color is very deep, one side of the color is very shallow, two situations will break the equilibrium; this is the role of weight. In the asymmetric design of clothing, we should make full use of quality and color to balance the relationship between the left and right. In short, symmetrical design and asymmetric design can create excellent clothing, but we must grasp the balance and coordination among various components.
