On June 5th, Jose Vieira Silva, Minister of economy, innovation and development of Portugal, held at the seminar on Portuguese leading the future of the Portuguese national pavilion at Expo Park, Shanghai, said Portugal was willing to become a channel and platform for Chinese enterprises to invest in Portuguese speaking countries and even enter the European and American markets, hoping to cooperate closely with China in the fields of electronics, renewable energy and biotechnology.


Vieira said that China ranked the sixteenth largest exporter in Portugal in 2009, a 11 rise over 2008 and a 20% increase in China's exports under the background of the financial crisis.

He said that it is an excellent opportunity for Chinese entrepreneurs to understand Portugal's business, and Portugal is willing to continue to be a promoter of China's economic and trade cooperation with other Portuguese speaking countries.


Basilio Horta, director general of the Portuguese trade and Investment Promotion Bureau, said that through Portuguese entry, Chinese enterprises could better enter the markets of Europe, Africa and South America.

"Machinery is Portugal's largest export industry, and 1/4 of Portugal's electricity comes from renewable energy. Portugal has Europe's largest wind and solar power plant. Portugal is one of the makers of electric vehicle charging standards, all of which create a good business environment for China's investment in Portugal."

Brazil Leo said that in the past 10 years, Portugal's economic structural adjustment has changed remarkably. Exports mainly concentrated in textile and other labor-intensive industries 10 years ago. Now it is concentrated in machinery, equipment manufacturing, auto parts and other technology products, and has broad prospects for cooperation with China in terms of electronic and telecommunications equipment, renewable energy and biotechnology.
