Shell fiber is a natural hard plant.

These fibers are widely distributed in the tropics, especially in the subtropics. India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines are all rich in coconut shell fibers.

In the west, coconut shell fibers are widely used in the West.

Mattresses, mats, mats, ropes, insulation and packaging materials. However, its chemical and physical properties are quite unexpected.

Because coconut shell fiber contains lignin, it has high quality, short fiber and relative width ratio, so it is very difficult to spin it into yarn. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen it into spinnable material.

Early studies found that coconut shell hard fibers could soften.

The most important way is to increase the content of oil and water in the internal structure, and even change its molecular structure by organic and inorganic chemistry.

Others use softening pineapple leaf fiber to soften coconut shell fiber, and some even use jute fiber enzyme activity or other chemical additives to make it achieve spinnability.

However, these methods did not really achieve their goals until another new method came out.

The SITRA fiber company of India adopts the combination of physical and chemical methods, that is, the leaching method, which effectively achieves the purpose of softening coconut shell fiber.

This method is actually very simple, but can make coconut shell fiber, like jute, sisal and other materials, make use of its chemical and enzyme treatment methods to make its fibers have the textile characteristics.

Not only that, the company also used modern means to test coconut shell fibers.

By comparing the untreated and treated coconut shell fibers, they found that the weight and quality of the treated coconut shell fibers changed. The hardness of the treated coconut shell fibers was reduced by 70%, that is, the hardness was 1.0793 before immersion, and the hardness after soaking was 0.4611.

It turned out that chemical immersion changed its internal structure.

Therefore, people call this success SITRA immersion method.

In this process, people use sodium hydroxide (concentration 10%) to soak, that is, 1H boiling water soaked, and then treated with magnesium chloride. After drying, coconut shell fibers become very soft spinnable fibers.

In fact, the company believes that soaked coconut shell fibers have removed most of the impurities in the fibers, so the softness has been improved, and its fine crushing and breaking elongation have been improved.

The secret is also to remove lignin from fibers and enhance moisture content.

Coconut shell fibers were soaked in caustic soda and treated with magnesium chloride to soften coconut shell fibers.

This method has become a patented method developed by SITRA company, and they have developed corresponding standards for testing hardness and sisal hardness of coconut shell fibers.

Moreover, the soaking concentration of caustic soda can only be maintained at 10% or 1 hours under the condition of boiling water soaking to achieve the purpose of softening.

Softened coconut shell fibers can be used to spin all kinds of yarns and then weave them into textiles.
