The product will not be mistaken for the European Union because of the label, but in fact consumers will buy products originating in third countries.

At present, the European Union's origin country ("Made in") is labelling voluntarily, but in fact, the use of the label is mainly based on the national laws of various countries.

In contrast to the European Union, the United States, Canada and Japan have strict regulations on the labels of the country of origin ("Made in").

The current EU textile label regulation applies only to textile fiber name coordination (a total of 48 types of textile fibers sold in the EU single market, 18 of which are natural and 30 man-made) and textile fiber labels.

Although parliament initially asked for a vote only for a technical proposal of the committee, members of Parliament changed it into a more political proposal to make the label of origin in new legislation mandatory.

To help consumers understand shopping, the European Parliament asked the committee to submit a report within two years and a legislative proposal to promote the implementation of new labeling requirements within the European Union (if necessary). The report should include the inspection of nursing labels (now voluntary), clothing and footwear size, health and safety warning (inflammable, potentially allergic substances) and social labels.

Member Toine Manders drafted a parliamentary report on this theme, which was approved by 528 votes, 18 votes against and 108 abstentions.
