Exports rose by about 17% to $2 billion 270 million, compared with exports of $1 billion 940 million in the same period last year, official figures show.

Kampuchea government officials said yesterday that this is a sign of global economic recovery after the financial crisis.

The Vice Minister of Commerce of Kampuchea said that demand was rising rapidly after the new figures were issued in Kampuchea's import and export quality control regulations.

Exports clearly show that 1 billion 320 million US dollars, about 58% of total exports, are exported to the United States, an increase of 13.3% over the same period last year.

Exports to the EU increased by 15.86% to $563 million 800 thousand, and exports to other foreign markets increased by 29% to 353 million 400 thousand US dollars.

Kampuchea's vice minister of Commerce said that regional markets have diversified, but other markets are still limited compared with the US and EU markets.

Exports to these markets are still very low. This is due to the Kampuchea dollar export tax exemption agreement for these markets, and there are many preferential benefits for exports to the US and EU markets.

He said that with the recovery of the global economy, Kampuchea's exports could increase again.
